A bird house can be a thing of pleasure especially if you make it on your own. Making your own bird house design is pretty easy. There are just a few things that you need to remember and to consider when you wish to try to make your very own bird house design.

In making your own bird house design, you need to consider what kinds of birds you have in the neighborhood that you will be putting the bird house in. If you have a lot of bigger birds in your place, you might like to make the bird house in coordination with the sizes of the common birds in the neighborhood. The bird house design should also be suitable for the kinds of nests that the birds usually make. Many birds prefer a bird house that is snug and not too wide.

Other things to consider for your bird house design are the ways to clean it and the ways to hang it. Usually, it is a good idea to regularly clean the bird house especially when it has just been used. This way, there will be less possibilities of disease that will be passed from one bird to another. The bird house design should have a large opening for cleaning that can be accessed from the top. This bird house design will reduce the chances of the chicks jumping out or falling to the ground.

Vents and holes should be provided to let the air circulate as well as to let water drain out effectively in case rain manages to get in. The vents are better off if placed somewhere above the area where the birds might nest while the drains will work best if situated in the bottom of the bird house design you will make. The vents need not be bigger than holes with a diameter of half an inch and the same goes for the drains. Vents can also be in the form of gaps between the roof and the bird house itself.

The bird house design should be for only one house. This is because almost all birds do not like to nest in such close proximity with one another. You might want to get rid of the perch below the entrance hole of your bird house design because this makes it more convenient for predators to access the bird house.

Making your own bird house design is easy. Building one does not even require you to be a professional carpenter. Keep the tips stated above for a better bird house. More on Bird House Resources.

Whenever we look at the different pieces of wood furniture that are shown in furniture stores or in our homes these wood furnishings all look the same in color and texture. This is because we see only the smooth brown color that is seen on the surface of the furniture, which in many cases is the polish that has been applied. There is more to wood furniture than just a brown colored wood. Each of these pieces of wood items and furnishing are made from different types of wood.

This means that some of these wood pieces have been given certain treatments to make sure that they will last in various conditions. Now, even though you can find many types of wood being used for various things, there are only certain types of wood that are used for wood crafts. These are the ones that many of us know about. Some of them include oak, pine, cherry, cedar and others to name but a few. Of these woods some are known as hardwood and others are called softwoods.

The difference in the types of wood that is used in furniture stems mainly from the fact that you can use some of those wood types to make various wood creations with no trouble. Regardless from where these types of wood came from there is always the chance that some kind of fungus can attack the wood even while it is in transport and you end up with damaged wood.

This damaged wood can’t be used to make quality furniture. Therefore many wood working companies and wood suppliers look for the types of wood that can be worked without having to worry about any damage occurring due to fungus or termites. Termites are most definitely the bane of life for wood working companies and wood suppliers as the tiny insects like to attack all the wood that they can get to.

Now for all of these reasons you will have to make sure that you buy your wood supplies from places that can guarantee that the various types of wood that they use and have in stock are free form disease and termites. Otherwise you are going to be in lots of trouble and misery due to poor quality wood items.

Generally most companies will supply good quality types of wood otherwise they will lose all of their clients. In most cases you can be assured that you are buying the various wood items that you need from reputed dealers. These people can let you know if the various types of wood in their stores is suitable for you.

You have just purchased a new home, and while showing a loved one the new, albeit empty home, your loved one mentions that it would look lovely if some Victorian interior designs were incorporated. You are a bit confused as to what your loved one meant, so you would like to find out more information about Victorian interior design.

About Victorian Interior Design

In order to understand what Victorian interior design is, you must first have a basic understanding of what the Victorian era was. The Victorian era specifically refers to the years which Queen Victoria ruled England. Her taste was refined and decadent, which is surprising because the era is know for having had high moral standards.

So, when it comes to Victorian interior design, it means having your home resemble the homes of the Victorian era. The first thing that you will notice if you have ever been in an authentic Victorian house is the wallpaper. Victorian wallpaper was thick and decorative, usually in the form of gold flowers over the wall unit.

While you do not need to incorporate that aspect of Victorian interior design into your home, if you wanted a complete, authentic Victorian look, you would have to choose wallpaper over paint. The next thing that is very indicative of Victorian interior design is the armchair.

If you are a fan of period movies, no doubt you have at least once seen a Victorian armchair. The armchair is usually made of dark oak, and the cushions are made of red velvet. Which leads you to another integral aspect of Victorian d

Design landscaping is meant to create a setting for your home and garden areas that reflect your personality and make people feel welcomed into your world. Whatever landscape design you choose will create a sense of style for the grounds that surround your home and will set the overall tone for your visitors. Landscaping that is well-done can also significantly raise the value of your property.

There are many ways that you can improve the landscaping lawn around your home. Some people worry that to improve their landscape design properly, they need to hire landscape architects or landscape contractors. This can be wonderful if you can afford it, but many people very successfully undertake the landscaping design for their homes on their own.

design landscaping
If you are interested in tackling the project of improving the design landscaping around your home, then you should first learn some of the essential design principles that are specific to landscaping.

There are four main aspects to all good garden landscaping and if you combine them with your own sense of style and attention to detail, then you will be well on your way to making the landscaping around your home unique.

The first element of landscaping is the concept of balance. If you concentrate most of your new plants in one area, then the rest of your garden landscaping area will look rather neglected.

landscaping lawn
Distribute the plants around the yard or the garden at least somewhat evenly and with a sense of flow. This will help draw the eye though the entire front lawn design and engage your visitors.

The second aspect of great landscaping is proportion. The idea here is to make sure that any landscape design feature you choose fits in appropriately, in terms of size, to the surrounding areas, fixtures and structures.

Trying to wedge an huge gazebo into a tiny back yard will end up looking almost comical, and will not provide a great effect. At the same time, if you have an enormous front lawn, then you will need to add larger elements in plantings or features that will be noticed and not overwhelmed.

Transition is the third principle you need to know for your landscaping project and is closely related to proportion. Even though your landscape design can include flowers, plants, large shrubs, bushes and even trees, the way to make them really work together in a beautiful way is with the use of transition.

It is the smooth flow from one type and size of plant to another. You want to lead the eye from delicate plants to larger ones with some in-between sizes. Color transitions can also be a very effective aspect of your overall landscaping design plan.

front lawn
The last of the four concepts of landscaping is unity and it is the ultimate sense that you are trying to express with your design. All of the choices that you make in how you balance, proportion, and transition the various colors, sizes and textures of your landscape elements should be governed by a unifying theme. This is what brings the landscape design together to work in harmony and create a spectacular home and garden.

It is best to choose a theme for your design landscaping and make sure you stick to it throughout. If you want the look of an English garden, then choose only elements that will fit with that theme. If you started out to create the feel of an English cottage garden, then you do not want to add accent pieces that have an oriental flair.

There are many times when you have decided to revamp how your entertainment room will look like. The main reason for doing this is because you want to have a home theater. So instead of revamping the entire room and spending loads of money, you should see how you can achieve a low budget home theater installation.

The first item that you will need to see about in your home theater installationis that of space to keep your big screen TV. Move any unwanted furniture out of the room that you have chosen as your home theater. Place the TV in the position that you will be most comfortable watching.

You must make sure that you have more than enough room at the back of the TV for the installation process of the various electrical items. Once your TV is in position you can then put the speakers in the places that will give you high quality movie surround sound. The next thing that you will have to figure out is fixing up the wiring to make the whole system work well without causing a neighborhood wide power blackout.

So the very first requirement that you will need to do is to find out what your full power load is. In other words can your power circuit take the entire load of normal house lighting, various electrical appliances working and your home theater system without crashing? Once you have this answer dealt with safely you can decide what component of your home theater installation will be tackled next.

Many times people design their home theaters without thinking about the light that can be seen entering the room from the windows. This unwanted light can be a distraction during the movie and in many cases cause a glare on the screen where you won’t be able to see the movie at all.

Now the best way to see the whole movie picture without any foreground light is to see where you have windows in your home theater room. To keep out the excess light during your movie time you can put heavy drapes or shades on the windows. This will eliminate your light distortion during the times that you are watching a movie.

There is only one item that needs to be seen to during the final phases of your home theater installation. This is the placement of lights. With the proper lighting in your home theater you can add various dimensions of entertainment to the movie experience. Remember that the best home theater can be ruined if you don’t get the right ambience of movie watching.

The topic of interior design history is a fascinating one and something that should really be explored at leisure. There are so many things to go through that you’d be surprised at just how long and colorful that history is. From the wild seventies to the bold eighties to the toned down nineties interior design history has come a long way. But that’s not all.

If you dig deeper you’ll also find that interior design history goes back longer than just the sixties or the seventies. It spans centuries and it spans continents, and it is admittedly one of the more fascinating aspects of human life. You can tell a lot about a culture by the interior designs for that particular time, and you can tell a lot about the people by how they have gone about designing their homes.

No two people are alike and this is also reflected in the way they furnish their homes. Interior design history through the ages has shown us that two people living in the same era and even next door to each other might not always display the same outlook of society that a general broader view might give you.

For instance you might like to have more of an elegant and traditional look and feel to your home whereas your neighbor might prefer the well-lived in look and shun the elegance you so desire. Taken separately what you get is a cross cut of one part of the social outlook for that age. And an interior design history student of the future might be forgiven for jumping to the conclusion that society during our time was either obsessed with perfection, or conversely that society had deteriorated to such an extent that homes were kept looking like pig-sties!

The interpretation of what they come across is entirely up to their discretion and what society is like at that period of time as well. So we as the interior design history students will also place different connotations on what we perceive as the reasons for a particular look in a particular era. But there’s no doubting that no matter what conclusions we come to there’s nothing more fascinating to look at than our interior design history.

There is just one thing to beware of in looking at the interior design history. And that is not to decide that interior designs from that or any other period of time did not have originality and initiative.
